Kingdom of Embers Kingdom Journals Book 1 edition by Tricia Copeland Joe Michaels Alivia Anders Tia Bach Children eBooks
First off, I would like to say, I read Drops of Sunshine, which was in the anthology, Spellbound: A Young Adult Novella Collection - this was Tricia Copeland's venture into the paranormal and she has a the knack for it and does not disappoint. Because of this, I downloaded Kingdom of Embers, but didn't get to it until recently and I've been kicking myself ever since. So, hold on, I'm on a Tricia Copeland high, and can't get enough of her work. So lets start with...Kingdom of Embers, Book One in the Kingdom Journals YA series, bewitched me from the first chapter, and by the end, I found a desire to want more. FYI: It does end in a cliffhanger, but this one is well worth it.
Alena, is a tough cookie, and she has to be. Growing up as a witch/vampire hybrid isn't a bed of roses. The story starts off with a little backstory about her forbidden existence and how her mother, the Vampire queen, has been dragging her in toe for years to find answers about Alena's delicate situation as well as searching for her father who happens to be a witch. But for now, Alena finds herself in LA and trying really hard to act normal and tackle her senior year with a positive outlook. Things start stacking against her though when a bully enters the picture and her friends seem more superficial than friendly.
Flustered with her situation, and uncovering more secrets than she can handle, Alena starts searching for answers on her own, until a friend from her past happens upon her. (Hunter, I believe has a deeper tie to her, but I'm waiting to see how this unfolds between them.) Once dots start connecting things become sketchy and dangerous.
Shall I continue? Nope. You're going to have to read and find out what happens next. Tricia Copeland is one of my favorite authors and has become wildly diverse in her writing. I love it. Be sure to look for my next review on her second in this series, Kingdom of Darkness. Diving into Alena's world once again.

Kingdom of Embers Kingdom Journals Book 1 edition by Tricia Copeland Joe Michaels Alivia Anders Tia Bach Children eBooks Reviews
Another masterpiece by Tricia. She draws you in and you find it hard to put her book down. Already anticipating the next part of the story. Can't wait for her next release.
Really liked this book and am so looking forward to the next in the series. I liked the characters and the plot. Really kept me guessing and wanting to know more. Romantic but clean which makes me excited to pass this on to my tween daughter, probably my son too! Great writing Tricia Copeland!
Having been a fan of Tricia Copeland for some time, I immediately picked up Kingdom of Embers when it was released knowing that I would be in for a treat. What I didn't anticipate was how hooked I would be on this unique story about a young girl in the midst of discovery about who she is in a world that most don't know actually exists. In a genre that others have over saturated with run of the mill stories of vampires, Ms. Copeland has created a twist where the reader is plunged into a world where what you see isn't always what you get. The creative use of childhood imaginary friends takes the book to a new level that leaves the reader wanting more. The author does a great job of balancing the development of her main character, Alena, with adrenaline inducing action that had me feeling like I was somehow seeing the story as a movie in my head! I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I picked up this book hoping for a new take on vampires; a new spin on the mysteries of them living among us. The author does not disappoint. Being a mom of high school daughters myself, I found Ms. Copeland balanced well the element of reality with the elements of magic and mystery surrounding Alena's character as she tries to find her way into adulthood.
As an Aromatherapist, I love reading that Alena was using oils to help Calm her or keep her Focused.
I wanted resolution to the mystery of the boys in her life and their attraction to her. What roles will they continue to play? The hanging questions that linger as I finished the book have me excitedly anticipating book #2.
I have recommended this book to both my daughters. I would say it's appropriate for ages 13 & older.
It's hard to have a fresh spin on vampires, but Kingdom of Embers offers just that. Whatever you think you know about vampire lore, toss it out. Alena is a vampire-witch hybrid, and even she doesn't completely understand those rules, mainly because her mother hasn't shared much yet.
As Alena searches for answers, she begins to realize how much she has to learn about her role in the Universe. She connects with a childhood friend, who is also more than he originally appeared, and challenges those around her to share the truth ... to trust her with it.
But her journey brings her face-to-face with danger. Kudos to the author for the great balance between developing Alena--allowing the reader to become attached--and creating action and intrigue. It makes for a captivating story.
Note I served as Editor through Indie Books Gone Wild. A positive review was not requested or guaranteed; the opinions expressed are my own.
Loved the story and how the characters flowed. Starting book 2.
Where do I even start my review?! Kingdom of Embers has me guessing the whole book on the bond that two students have with each other. Not only that, but I was wondering when the other shoe was going to drop. Alena is still trying to find out who she wants to be when she turns 18. On her own accords she meets Hunter. Hunter and Alena have a very strange bond between them. They do everything they can to try and figure out what it is that caused it. They are also missing a key part. Alenas mother is meddeling in her life. She only wants the bet for her, but this particular meddeling will leave Aleana with a bad taste in her mouth.
I believe that this is the first book that I have read by Tricia, and I can tell you that this isn't going to be the last. She leaves you wanting more! You will be needing more after you read this book! Her writting sucks you in and it refuses to let you go once you start. You will not be disappointed at all!
